Why I choose insolvency
After spending three years studying and enjoying the Manchester social life I needed to decide what to do next. I wanted to work in the accounting/finance field but was not clear exactly where. Having trailed around many careers fairs and spoken to people in industry I realised that general accounting or audit was not for me. I wanted a job with more variety where things can change from one day to the next and there are different clients to deal with. Armed with all of the literature I began to research my options and came across corporate recovery and insolvency. I looked further into it and then left university to find a job in insolvency to see what it entailed. I began working at Portland and took to the job straight away. I enjoyed the variety of work and enjoyed the technical side to the job, as well as the commercial realities, which in some instances pull in opposite directions. I enjoy this challenge and the other challenges which come in each day.
Insolvency is an area where you keep learning every day, you get to learn about new industries very quickly and each day brings its own challenges, the experience of which can be used in the next case that comes along.
